This specific project started back in 2014, with the series ‘Life of a ballerina’’ in which Nahapetjan followed a dancer throughout the different phases of her professional life. The project then extended into a broader series, pursued until 2018: the photographer depicts the life of many international dancers throughout their work in different settings, trying to capture the beauty of their trained bodies in the quest of perfection. The sculptural elegance of the dancers reflects the strength that lies beyond the quest towards ultimate grace.
The series has been exhibited in different venues, such as Josilda da Conceicao gallery (2017), Het huis De Gecroonde Raep (2017), The Amsterdam Picture Room (2018), Ambassadors Amsterdam (2019).
SoulQuest
SoulQuest is the result of a long research, pursued throughout time. Most of the pictures have been shot in Latvia and Armenia, Nahapetjan’s homeland, representing an extensive journey back to the photographer’s roots. As the immersive forest in the series, representative of Mother Nature, the female figure looses her specific identity in the woods, transforming into a creature of the Earth who is searching for her soul, far away form the noise of cities. The series aims to depict the depth of the human soul and its complexity, through the symbolic immersion into nature.
The series has been exhibited at Violet and Wilde gallery, Amsterdam, in 2020.
